TEKNA HOLDING 2022 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT: Broader CO2 mapping and enhanced reporting transparency

22.4.2023 10:00:01 CEST | Tekna Holding ASA | Non-regulatory press releases
2022 was another year of global challenges, but also of important achievements towards meeting Tekna’s sustainability commitments for 2030. Key improvements include a 19% reduction of the Scope 2 emissions and a 20% reduction of our energy intensity per kilogram of additive material produced compared to baseline 2019.
The Tekna Holding ASA Sustainability Report was issued earlier this April.
“Tekna is in the process of revisiting its corporate purpose. Building on our core, sustainability will play a more explicit role in our strategy. The vision, mission and values for the corporation will integrate driving positive impact, creating sustainable value for the company as well as society. Our Sustainability vision consists of three parts: Circularity in our value-chain, Business model resilience and Resilience across and for all stakeholders.”, says Luc Dionne, CEO.
Highlights in 2022 include:

We have made great strides towards reducing our single-use plastic packaging by finalizing the development of a universal and reusable container for additive manufacturing powders. Given Tekna’s projected volumes, the company could avoid ~1 million tCO2e over the next five years.
Tekna has submitted its first 25 suppliers to a business partner sustainability due diligence process covering topics such as supply chain, risk assessment, management systems, working conditions, social responsibility, environment, anti-corruption, and conflict minerals.
Last year, we communicated our ambitions to reduce CO2 emissions in scopes 1 and 2 by 50% by 2030. In scope 2 we realised a reduction of 19% compared to 2021 to 34 tCO2e (42 tCO2e) this was achieved mainly by regulating the office temperature in Tekna’s European offices.
We have completed our initial baseline mapping of categories in scope 3, such as Employee Commute, Business Travel, Waste, and Fuel and Energy related activities. Tekna is well on its way to having a thorough understanding of the emissions they directly influence.
We signed the United Nations Global Compact, which is a voluntary initiative based on the CEO’s commitment to implement universal sustainability principles (on Human Rights, Labour, Environment, Anti-corruption) and to take steps to support UN goals.
345 Health and safety audits and awareness interactions took place between management and personnel throughout the year.
62% of employees have passed with success the Cyber security training in 2022

‘’We have a solid foundation on which to build our sustainability journey. Our manufacturing locations are based in countries where we can utilize clean energy, such as renewable hydropower in Canada and nuclear power in France. Our vision is to expand these sites to produce each metal powder in North America and Europe, bringing our products closer to the point-of-use and creating supply resilience through redundancy.’’ – Arina van Oost, VP Corporate Strategic Development and Innovation
For our second year of sustainability reporting, we have adopted a methodology that further enhances transparency by publishing stand-alone reports on key topics. On our website you can find the following reports: Sustainability Report, Human Rights and Transparency Act Report, Carbon Accounting Report, GRI Report and the EU Taxonomy Progress Report. All of which have been published earlier this April and cover the collective efforts from the contributors in the Tekna ecosystem and value chain, including our global subsidiaries in Canada, France, China and Korea.
