GRK Suomi Oy has been selected to carry out the renovation of the Mäkelänkatu street in the Vallila district of Helsinki. The agreement was signed with the City of Helsinki on 3 October 2025, and the project was included in GRK’s order backlog. The renovation project will run from October 2025 to October 2027. The renovation project is worth approximately EUR 24.8 million.
GRK Infra Plc Investor News 3 October 2025 at 3:00 p.m. EEST The renovation of Mäkelänkatu will begin in Vallila, Helsinki in October 2025. During the project, approximately 1.3 kilometres of Mäkelänkatu between Kumpulantie and Hämeentie will be renovated.
“Street construction in the inner city of Helsinki continues to be busy, as there are a lot of pipelines and infrastructure under the streets that are in need of renovation due to their age. We secured this most significant street work project in Helsinki in our order backlog,” says Jaakko Mäkelä, Business Director, Civil Engineering and Paving.
The project related to the renovation of Mäkelänkatu was included in GRK Suomi Oy’s order backlog upon signing the agreement. At the end of June 2025, GRK Suomi Oy’s order backlog amounted to EUR 397 million and GRK Group’s EUR to 789 million.
Mäkelänkatu is one of the main roads in Helsinki
During the project management, underground municipal technology, such as water and sewer pipes, district heating pipes and telecommunications cables, will be replaced on Mäkelänkatu. In addition, the surface structures and technical systems of the street, such as traffic lights, lighting and track engineering systems, will be replaced. Tramway rails will also be replaced in places. Cycling will separated from other traffic to its own lanes, with one-way bicycle lanes built south of Kumpulantie.
In connection with the renovation, sections of the linden alley that are in poor condition will be replaced. The condition of the trees and their growing substrates has been carefully investigated. Approximately 100 trees will be removed from the section to be renovated and new seedlings will be planted in their place.
“Mäkelänkatu is one of the busiest streets in Helsinki. The renovation of Aleksis Kiven katu, which was due to be completed at the end of 2026, is currently under way near Mäkelänkatu. We have also been in charge of the renovation of Aleksis Kiven katu. We have succeeded in accelerating the schedule in order to complete the work there one year earlier than planned, by the end of 2025. We believe that this will contribute to reducing traffic jams on Mäkelänkatu during the project,” says Mäkelä.

GRK Suomi Oy on valittu toteuttamaan Mäkelänkadun peruskorjausta Helsingin Vallilassa. Sopimus allekirjoitettiin Helsingin kaupungin kanssa 3.10.2025, jolloin projekti siirtyi GRK:n tilauskantaan. Peruskorjausprojekti kestää 10/2025–10/2027 välisen ajan. Projektin arvo on noin 24,8 milj. euroa.

Mäkelänkadun peruskorjaus alkaa lokakuussa Helsingin Vallilassa 2025. Projektin aikana Mäkelänkatu peruskorjataan noin 1,3 kilometrin osuudelta Kumpulantien ja Hämeentien välillä.
”Katujen rakentaminen Helsingin kantakaupungissa jatkuu vilkkaana, koska katujen alla on paljon peruskorjausiässä olevia putkia ja infraa. Voitimme tämän Helsingin merkittävimmän katutyön tilauskantaamme”, taito- ja väylärakentamisen liiketoimintajohtaja Jaakko Mäkelä GRK:lta sanoo.
Mäkelänkadun peruskorjausta koskeva projekti kirjautui GRK Suomi Oy:n tilauskantaan sopimuksen allekirjoitushetkellä. GRK:n Suomi Oy:n tilauskanta oli kesäkuun 2025 lopussa 397 miljoonaa euroa ja GRK-konsernin 789 miljoonaa euroa.

Projektin aikana Mäkelänkadulla uusitaan maanalaista kunnallistekniikkaa, kuten vesi- ja viemärijohtoja, kaukolämpöputkia ja tietoliikennekaapeleita. Lisäksi uusitaan kadun pintarakenteet ja tekniset järjestelmät, kuten liikennevalot, valaistus ja ratatekniikka. Myös raitiokiskoja uusitaan paikoittain. Pyöräily siirtyy muun liikenteen seasta omille väylilleen, kun Kumpulantiestä etelään päin rakennetaan yksisuuntaiset pyörätiet.
Peruskorjauksen yhteydessä uusitaan lehmuskujanteen huonokuntoisia osuuksia. Puiden ja niiden kasvualustojen kuntoa on selvitetty huolellisilla tutkimuksilla. Remontoitavalta osuudelta poistetaan noin 100 puuta ja tilalle istutetaan uusia taimia.
”Mäkelänkatu on yksi Helsingin vilkkaasti liikennöidyimmistä kaduista. Lähellä Mäkelänkatua on parhaillaan meneillään Aleksis Kiven kadun peruskorjaus, jonka piti valmistua vuoden 2026 lopussa. Olemme vastanneet myös Aleksis Kiven peruskorjauksesta. Sen korjauksessa olemme onnistuneet kirimään aikataulua siten, että että työt valmistunevat vuoden 2025 puolella. Uskomme, että tämä vähentää osaltaan Mäkelänkadun liikenneruuhkia projektin aikana”, Mäkelä kertoo.
