Cyviz Easy Platform creates a forward-thinking visualization center for Norwegian start-ups. Smart Innovation Norway is an organization that seeks to practice independent, applied research within the fields of renewable energy and information technology.
It does this through research projects and clusters that focus on Smart Energy, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Smart Cities, and Digitalization. It has over 100 cluster members, 250 research partners, and over 40 employees based in its HQ in Halden. Smart Innovation Norway is now a key national innovation player, having initiated or participated in over 30 research projects including 14 for the EU, and the Horizon 2020 projects EMPOWER, INVADE, and E-LAND. In August 2019, Smart Innovation Norway was approved as a research organization by the Research Council of Norway.
Continuously innovating
To remain at the forefront of the sector, Smart Innovation Norway needs to support its cluster members and research partners with the best technology infrastructure. This meant updating its visualization center to a Smart Innovation Arena that allows pitching, demonstrations, simulations, conferences, meetings, and more.
Exploring Cyviz´s potential
The old center was, unable to keep up with new demands for hybrid and virtual events. Having heard about Cyviz through the Norweigan Catapult Programme the Smart Innovation Norway team decided to explore what Cyviz could offer in terms of a better solution to their needs.
The Cyviz Easy Platform is simple to customize, without the need for specialist programming skills and this made setting up the new Smart Innovation Arena a lot quicker and cost effective. The flexibility of the system means it can adapt as Smart Innovation Norway’s needs change, responding to macro changes such as the rise of hybrid and virtual events or external opportunities like integrating with new technologies.
Intuitive events and meetings
With just a few clicks, the Smart Innovation Norway team and its partners can display everything they need to on the video wall, a large, seamless 18-meter screen. They can stream events, take part in meetings and interviews, and lead workshops all from the Smart Innovation Arena.
With the more advanced system, the team has found further uses for the Smart Innovation Arena in training and collaborating with start-ups as part of its clusters. Simulations can be run via the Arena to explore and demonstrate products and to pitch investors.
Future plans
The team is exploring ways to connect the Arena with other Cyviz installations globally. “We’d like to not think of it as a one-off physical center in Norway, but as an island that could link to endless possibilities across the world,” explains Ketil Thomsen.
The ultimate aim of the Smart Innovation Arena is to become the physical hub for all activities at Smart Innovation Norway. Driving greater innovation and collaboration across its extensive partner and start-up network, public organizations, and academic institutions.

Cyviz Easy Platform utviklet og levert av den norske bedriften Cyviz, skaper et fremtidsrettet visualiseringssenter for norske oppstartsbedrifter. Smart Innovation Norway driver med uavhengig, anvendt forskning og spesialiserer seg på forskningsbasert næringsutvikling innenfor smart energi, smarte samfunn og ny teknologi.
Smart Innovation Norway har initiert og deltatt i over 30 forsknings- og innovasjonsprosjekter. 14 av disse er EU-prosjekter, med et samlet budsjett på over 1,6 milliarder NOK. I tillegg har avdelingen for Smarte Byer & Samfunn vært involvert i over 100 innovasjonsprosjekter. I august 2019 ble selskapet godkjent som forskningsorganisasjon av Norges Forskningsråd.
Kontinuerlig innovasjon
For å kunne ligge i forkant, må Smart Innovation Norway støtte sine klyngemedlemmer og forskningspartnere med den beste teknologiske infrastrukturen. Det var derfor viktig å oppdatere visualiseringssenteret til en Smart Innovation Arena som tillater pitching, demoer, simuleringer, konferanser, møter og mer.
Cyviz – raskt og kostnadseffektivt
Det gamle senteret klarte ikke å holde tritt med nye krav til hybride og virtuelle arrangementer. Etter å ha hørt om Cyviz gjennom Norweigan Catapult-programmet bestemte Smart Innovation Norway-teamet seg for å utforske hva Cyviz kunne tilby i form av løsninger for å dekke deres nåværende og fremtidige behov.
Cyviz Easy Platform er enkel å tilpasse, uten behov for spesialiserte programmeringskunnskaper. Dette gjorde oppsett av den nye Smart Innovation Arena raskt og kostnadseffektivt. Fleksibiliteten i løsningen gjør det enkelt for Smart Innovation Norway å justere etter behov. Det gjelder alt fra hybride og virtuelle arrangement til integrering med ny teknologi.
Intuitive arrangementer og møter
Med bare noen få klikk kan Smart Innovation Norway-teamet og partnerne vise alt de trenger på videoveggen, en stor, sømløs 18-meters skjerm. De kan streame arrangementer, delta i møter og intervjuer og lede workshops, alt fra Smart Innovation Arena. Med det mer avanserte systemet har teamet funnet ytterligere bruksområder for Smart Innovation Arena i opplæring og samarbeid med oppstartsbedrifter. Simuleringer kan kjøres via Arena for å utforske og demonstrere produkter og for å holde investormøter.
Fremtidsplaner
Oppgraderingen har gitt Smart Innovation Norway en arena som kan tilpasses nye behov og muligheter. Blant annet kan bedriften koble arenaen sammen med Cyviz-installasjoner i ander land.
«Vi er et selvstendig og uavhengig senter med endeløse muligheter til å koble oss på resten av verden», sier Ketil Thomsen, leder av Smart Innovation Arena.
Det endelige målet med Smart Innovation Arena er å bli det fysiske knutepunktet for alle aktiviteter i Smart Innovation Norway. En driver for innovasjon og samarbeid på tvers av deres omfattende partner- og oppstartsnettverk, offentlige organisasjoner og akademiske institusjoner.
